Diversity & Equality
We are committed to providing everyone with the opportunity to join us and excel. We value the different perspectives, skills and rich mix of talent that a diverse workforce can bring and encourage applications from people from a wide range of backgrounds.
Audit Scotland is committed to equal opportunity and to a culture that respects difference. As an employer and public body, and in our audit role, we can play a leading part in the promotion and application of best practice in the areas of Diversity and Equality.
As a public body we are legally required to eliminate discrimination and promote good relations, as well as promote equality, in relation to disability, gender, gender re-assignment and race. We have developed our single scheme to meet these requirements but also have extended this to address age, religion or belief, sexual orientation and human rights.
Our new Single Equality Scheme draws together and updates previous statements and policies. It makes our current position on diversity and equality clear, sets out what we intend to do both internally and in the way we carry out our work, and explains how we will monitor our progress. Two Ticks Disability Scheme
Audit Scotland is positive about employing disabled people and committed to the Two Ticks Disability Scheme that is awarded by the Employment Service. As users of the disability symbol, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the vacancy minimum criteria. The general level of competence is set out in the job description/person specification of each individual vacancy profile.
Audit Scotland may require job applicants to attend an assessment centre for tests prior to the interview process. In this instance, where a disabled applicant meets the minimum criteria for a post they will be invited to an assessment centre. In this respect, the assessment centre is regarded as the interview, whether or not an actual interview is part of the tests.
The Equality Act 2010 defines a disabled person as someone who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and adverse long-term effect on his or her ability to perform normal day to day activities. Audit Scotland considers disability under the Social Model of disability rather than the legal definition provided by the Equality Act. The Social Model goes further than the legal definition. We recognise that it is often the barriers in society that exclude people with disabilities, rather than any individual impairment or medical condition.
To apply under the Two Ticks Disability scheme, please complete the Equal Opportunities Monitoring section of your on-line application. If you need any adjustments to attend and participate in an assessment centre and/or interview please let us know. We will try to accommodate these to ensure that you can compete on equal terms with non-disabled people.
Any false declaration of disability to obtain an interview will result in the invalidation of any offer made.
Accessibility
Audit Scotland believes that everyone should be able to access its website regardless of any impairments or technical constraints.
As well as being intuitive and easy to use, the Audit Scotland website combines aesthetic value with practicality. This user-focused design combines these requirements into one website solution to satisfy all of its users. For more information on some of the measures we have taken to ensure that this website is accessible, can be found here.
