I started my working life in audit before moving into local government where I was involved in many different aspects of work including policy, business change, learning and development and performance review. When the best value jobs were advertised I felt I could combine all of my skills gained over the years and put them to best use with Audit Scotland, and I have.
The work we are involved in is varied and I can be working with a police authority, a council or the Scottish Government. I enjoy getting out and about and meeting and working with many different people. There is an element of satisfaction that Audit Scotland is making a difference to the public sector when one of our reports is published.
There really isn't a typical day when working with Audit Scotland. I have a portfolio of councils stretching from Dumfries and Galloway to Western Isles. Each one has different needs and requirements. I can be reviewing reports, interviewing elected members and senior officers and meeting with chief executives. We work closely with colleagues in other areas of Audit Scotland and more widely with colleagues from other scrutiny bodies and meet regularly with them to talk about issues affecting our work.
